The American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery

was established in 1979 and exists primarily for the purpose of assisting newly trained orthopedic surgeons in the certification process. The purpose of certification examination is to provide the public with a dependable mechanism to identify physicians who have met a standard to assure competent performance in the field of orthopedic surgery.

AOAO Case Log System

Effective December 1, 2012, the AOBOS is no longer accepting surgical log submissions generated from the AOAO case log system.

Candidates must use the AOBOS Clinical Log Template to compile the surgical case log for the Part III Clinical Examination.

Osteopathic Continuous
Certification (OCC)

OCC began January 1, 2013 for all time-dated board certified orthopedic surgeons.

Participation in OCC is mandated by the American Osteopathic Association. Your ability to practice may be at risk for non-compliance.

As a certified osteopathic orthopedic surgeon, you will be required to participate in all five (5) components of OCC to maintain your certification. The components are: Unrestricted Licensure; Lifelong Learning/CME; Cognitive Assessment; Practice Performance Assessment and Improvement; and Continuous AOA Membership.

 

2016 Written and OCC Cycle
Examination Dates

The 2016 Written examination is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Prometric centers across the country.

The 2016 OCC (Recertification) Examination is scheduled for Friday, June 17, 2016 at Prometric Centers.

The 2014 Bob Green Memorial Award winners have been announced. They will receive their awards at the 2015 AOAO meeting in Colorado Springs, CO.  Congratulations to Matthew Bullock, DO and Ryan Kenny, DO for achieving the highest combined score for the 2014 written and oral certification examinations.
